Oyama City produces high-quality whisky in an environment near the center of the Kanto region, with relatively convenient access from Tokyo.
Tochigi’s Drinking Culture and the Characteristics of Its Craft Whisky
Tochigi Prefecture is located in northern Kanto and is a region where nature and history coexist in harmony.
Surrounded by abundant natural landscapes such as the Nasu Mountain Range and the Nikko mountain area, it is also a popular tourist destination.
In particular, areas such as Nikko and Ashikaga are home to historic cultural heritage sites and attract many visitors from both Japan and abroad.
Tochigi is also known for its sake production.

Located in Oyama City, Stork Valley Distillery produces craft gin and whisky.
With a strong focus on high-quality water and natural surroundings, the distillery selected Oyama from among many candidate locations.
It is situated close to a water source selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Famous Waters by the Ministry of the Environment, and is also well positioned for sourcing cedar grown in the natural environment of Nikko.

This distillery produces an authentic Japanese whisky that can only be made here, using natural underground water from the Nikko mountain range, sake yeast, and rice flour made from ginjo rice.
After beginning distillation in the summer of 2022, the distillery reached its second anniversary.
In October 2024, it will release a long-awaited two-year-old newborn whisky, with each version limited to 1,200 bottles.
